CLASSICAL PILATES AS INTENDED

A conversation between mind, body, and soul.

THE 5 PILLARS OF CLASSICAL PILATES

breath

BREATH

Pilates emphasises coordinated breathing to fuel muscles, focus, and support movement. Inhales expand the ribcage, while exhales engage the core, facilitating deep stabilisation.

concentrate

CONCENTRATION

Every movement requires mindful attention to form and muscle engagement, ensuring precision and maximising effectiveness while minimising injury risk.

settings

CONTROL

Movements are performed slowly and deliberately, with muscles fully engaged at all times—no momentum or rushing. This steadily builds strength, stability, and body awareness.

target

CENTERING

The body’s “powerhouse” (core muscles including abdominals, back, and pelvic floor) is the focal point of all movement, creating a stable base for efficient, integrated motion.

focus

PRECISION

Each exercise is executed with exact alignment and careful attention to detail, ensuring muscles are targeted correctly and movements are balanced and controlled.

HEAD COACH ANDY OSBORNE

OSBORNE CLASSICAL PILATES

I have always believed that exercise, when taught and performed correctly, is the fountain of youth. I launched my first fitness business in 1999 — years before boutique studios or functional training became part of the mainstream. Since then, every venture I have built has grown from the same foundation: a genuine desire to help people move better, live better, and reconnect with their physical potential. My passion for Pilates began in 2002 when I trained under Michael King, one of the world’s leading Pilates educators. I continued to deepen my understanding of the method, the mechanics, and the philosophy behind Contrology, and taught Pilates for years. So, when I had the chance to open my own studio, I jumped at it — making this dream a reality.

WHY CHOOSE OSBORNE CLASSICAL PILATES?

CORE PRINCIPLES OF CONTROLOGY

We honour Joseph Pilates original works “Contrology” rather than looking at Pilates just as one element we treat Pilates as a system, with mat work as the core and the apparatus like Reformer and the Tower used to assist or progress the practice. The system was designed to develop the body, empower the mind, and elevate the spirit.

THE TOWER

Our reformers are equipped with towers. This combination allows for a wider variety of exercises that makes for a more rounded practice which can target specific areas if needed  improving strength, flexibility, and balance, making it more suitable for different fitness levels, rehabilitation, and can increase intensity if needed.

PILATES FOR EVERYDAY PEOPLE

We coach any one who wants to feel better, move better, and age better. Pilates practice made accessible by breaking down the stigma created by social media and marketing. We encourage men and woman of all ages and fitness levels to come and discover the true potential of Pilates.

TECHNIQUE, PRECISION AND CONTROL OVER SPEED OF MOVEMENT

Our mission is to prioritise proper form, core engagement, and body awareness (stability), which is more important for long-term results and injury prevention than simply achieving a ‘perfect’ pose.

PILATES AS INTENDED

At Osborne Classical Pilates, we honour the original vision of Joseph Pilates — a system designed to develop the body, empower the mind, and elevate the spirit. Pilates called his method Contrology — the practice of mastering movement with precision, intention, and awareness. Not only for performers. Not only for the naturally gifted. But for everyone who wishes to move through life with “spontaneous zest and pleasure.”

OUR STUDIO STANDS APART

We don’t dilute the method. You won’t use gimmicks, fads, high impact or choreography. We use the original moves. Our studio is equipped with hybrid machines which offer the versatility of a traditional reformer but have a Tower that increases the repertoire of movements. We train real people of all ages who want better posture, stronger cores, fewer aches, confident movement, and a body they can trust.

OUR CLIENT REVIEWS

For several years, I have always made a point of attending Andy’s Mat Pilates classes. Without doubt, through doing these classes I have improved and maintained my core strength and flexibility, which are essential in my regular fitness regime. Recently, I had my first experience of attending Andy’s Reformer class. I loved the challenge and control, and being able to adapt the resistance to suit me, meaning I still get a full-body workout with low impact. With Andy’s years of experience and passion, he ensures that no matter what level you are, he teaches the correct technique and posture so that you feel the benefits and, above all, enjoy it.

Andy is an excellent Pilates coach for both mat and reformer sessions. The reformer classes, in particular, have been incredible, and I always leave feeling deeply stretched, calm, and refreshed. Working with Andy has genuinely been one of the best things I’ve done for my body and overall wellbeing. He is especially attentive when I’m recovering from an injury, thoughtfully adapting each session to ensure movements feel safe, supportive, and effective. The studio environment is just as impressive as the coaching. Classes are small, the space is lovely, and everyone is genuinely friendly. There’s a welcoming, non-judgemental culture that makes it easy to feel comfortable.

Pilates with Andy is absolutely amazing. It has done wonders for a back injury I sustained, completely relieving the pain and keeping my core really strong. The sessions are tough but fun; Andy motivates you to keep going and always corrects your form so you know you’re doing the exercises correctly. I never miss a class if I can help it and am really looking forward to what his Reformer sessions bring.

I really enjoyed the Reformer class with Andy. I have previously done Reformer Pilates, but this felt different to the versions I’ve tried before, which I really liked—a more classical approach. I learnt some new movements and was intrigued by the Tower that comes with the Reformer, so I’m looking forward to going back and seeing what the Tower has to offer. It felt both refreshing and purposeful.
